August

For Field Hockey, Coach Hubbard said of Nora: Nora is a senior captain and has been willing to play any position on the field (including goalkeeper).  She consistently works hard in practice and has an outstanding attitude that brings the best out in the players around her.  She has scored 4 goals in our games so far this season and has assisted on 2.

For Golf, Coach Hammond said of Andrew: AJAndrew is currently a sophomore and is in his first season with WPHS Golf. Despite being new to the team, Andrew has quickly grown to exemplify positivity, coachability, and passion for the game. His calm and collected attitude has helped him shoot excellent scores while simultaneously improving his swing and on-course strategy. During the 2024 Home Match against Lake Braddock, Andrew posted one of his best season scores while unknowingly running a fever, helping West Po tie it's best team score to-date. The determination and grit that Andrew brings to the sport and to his team serve as an inspiring example of what all athletes should strive to emulate.

OGCongratulations to Olivia, our Athlete of the Month for Girls Volleyball! Coach Skidmore praises Olivia’s standout season, where she earned 1st Team All-District honors as a sophomore. Olivia has been a key player all season, closing out five-set matches with a powerful presence on the court. Her impressive 90% serving accuracy includes 52 aces—the highest of any outside hitter in our district—and she’s tallied an incredible 232 kills during regular season district matches, second only to the district’s Player of the Year. With an average of 20 kills per match, Olivia’s impact as a six-rotation outside hitter is extraordinary!

ACFor Boys Volleyball, Coach Lacey said of Anes: He juggles playing the violin with the school orchestra while also being the starting libero for the boys volleyball team.  He was named 1st Team Libero of the Year for our District.  Most notable was the fact that he led the entire State of VA in total digs in October and for the entire season.

Dawn HoustonCoach Petrucelli said of Dawn:

Dawn has been an integral part of our 10-0 start to the season. She currently leads us in both scoring and rebounding and has been a consistent force on both ends of the court. Dawn was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Oakton Cougar Holiday Classic for her around all play and for helping lead us to 3 wins in 3 games. Dawn has been getting it done off the court as well, taking multiple AP and DE classes while maintaining almost all As across the board.
