Attendance Matters!

Regular attendance is a cornerstone of academic achievement in high school. Each school day builds upon the last, creating a foundation for understanding complex subjects. Missing classes can lead to significant gaps in knowledge, making it challenging for students to keep up with coursework.

Impact of Poor Attendance

Chronic absenteeism—defined as missing 10% or more of the school year—has been linked to lower academic performance. In Texas, for example, chronic absenteeism nearly doubled from 11% in 2019 to 26%, highlighting a growing concern.

Additionally, a study found that students with regular attendance had an average GPA of 3.2, while those with frequent absences averaged a GPA of 2.8.

Consequences of Tardiness and Cutting Class

Consistent tardiness and skipping classes disrupt the learning process, not only for the individual student but also for their peers. These behaviors can lead to missed instructional time, lower grades, and an increased likelihood of dropping out. Addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining a productive learning environment.
